Zoom is a video conferencing software that literally exploded during the lockdown in The goal today is to find the best way to access Zoom conferences from a Raspberry Pi. There is no Zoom application available for Raspberry Pi, but Zoom can be installed easily by adding an extension to the default web browser: Chromium.

If you need help getting started on Raspberry Pi, I have an entire course to guide you through your first steps. Get all the information on this page if you are interested.

Zoom is intended to work with a desktop app, to help you configure the audio and video, so the web access is a bit hidden when you join a conference. If you need help to install and configure Raspberry Pi OS, please have a look at my dedicated tutorial on the topic here.

For example, in a terminal: sudo apt update sudo apt ugprade. If you need a microphone, I recommend starting by checking that everything is ok first. You can read this guide on how to install a microphone. Same thing for the camera, my camera guide can help you if needed.

Audio and video are working well if correctly configured on the system. You can also use screen share to stream your screen to the meeting. Ok, so this method with Chromium is working, but maybe not the best fit for you. Do you want to try something else? Here is a quick overview of the other solutions I tried. There is an app in the Chrome web store for Zoom. Obviously, the best way would have been to use a native client , either from the repository, a package or even from sources.

Unfortunately, Zoom is offering many clients for different systems and software computers, smartphones, mail software, etc. I understand this. As I told you in the introduction, Zoom only took off in , it was almost unknown before. They had 10 millions active users in December and over millions during the lockdown. So, they probably have other priorities than Raspberry Pi users. Let me know if you find other solutions. Before ending this tutorial, I want to share with you a few other alternatives to Zoom, that work fine on Raspberry Pi.

Jitsi Meet is the first Zoom alternative you can check. Audio, video and screen sharing are working correctly. You can even self-host your server if you want link here.

It only works in a web browser, and you need a Google account. And a last one to conclude, Skype is also a very popular software on computers, so it should be easy to find interlocutors that have it. Even if Skype is losing users each month, they still have a solid base of people with the software installed.

An account is required. From here, you can start a call or a meeting with the same options as the other alternatives to Zoom. Thanks to all my Patrons for supporting me , helping me to keep doing this and producing even more tutorials for everyone!

Thank you to everyone supporting me there. There are a few other alternatives that combine correct operating on Raspberry Pi OS and high usage over the world, but not really the perfect solution for everyone.

How to Run Zoom on the Raspberry Pi

Viewed 6k times. Improve this question. Is the pi running Raspbian, or Ubuntu? If Ubuntu, which version? I'm temped to close this question as it does not appear to be about Ubuntu. If it is what version do you have installed? Add a comment. Sorted by: Reset to default. I have it and Zoom installed. I have yet to test it IRL. I did find I needed to do the following extra things to get it working: yad cmake pulseaudio-utils pulseaudio And reboot! Sound is an issue.

After restarting pulseaudio I could get sound through the speakers on one setting but it sounded rough. Rome wan't built in a day - and what you have done is very promising. Please stick at it and an empire is at hand. Sound works fine after fighting a little bit with zoom setup We are using the integrated usb sound card of a logitech usb headset to have zoom audio we use zoom with headsets to avoid ambient noise by using noise cancellation properties of headset mic.

I also have a nice hdmi full hd computer monitor without integrated speakers. The problem now is: NO zoom video from my camera. I have problems with my video using original rpi camera module v2 conected to ISP port. No other options on zoom desktop app box The rare thing is the camera works fine with the classic reported periodic lags on zoom web Chromium using raspbian not box86 emulator.

Can somebody figure out what could be the problem? Thank you very much in advance if somebody using rpi camera with zoom pi-app could help me. I am using this camera because I imagined that it could be the cheapest and fastest more integrated option for RPi4, instead of using an usb expensive videoconferencing camera; also adding usb headset at the same time, could probably create a bottleneck for zoom at the usb port.

Excuse me if i have sent the same message twice! I run out of phone battery. So fas I have installed and tried: 1. CommanderPi my favourite 3. Power Tools 4. Conky using all the time I am rather an ignorant, so thank you very much for good description and help.

I did not have any spacial problems with installation. Via Konsultisto. I fixed a couple bugs, and added pulseaudio. Either we can join a meeting by using the meeting id or sign in to host a meeting. In order to uninstall the Zoom application from the Raspberry Pi using the command:.

Running Zoom video conferencing client on the Pi - Raspberry Pi Forums

Logout Register. Zolm a long while I've been considering building an app store for the RPi, and now I am pleased to say: instll finally a reality. Introducing Pi-Appsthe only app store dedicated to community-developed RPi projects that aren't available in the repository.

Turns out you can emulate the i Linux Zoom application, using box86with enough performance to be usable on a Pi4. You don't believe me? Go watch Novaspirit Tech's video about it.

I personally have tried this Zoom solution during testing, and agree with Novaspirit's conclusion: it's not blazing fast, but much better than doing it in-browser. And the Gallery View is a nice bonus. How often to check for updates. Which text editor to use when creating your own app's install script. Whether or not an app should be automatically reinstalled, after it's been updated. Whether or not to display an Edit button when viewing an App's details.

Whether or not to shuffle the App List. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post. Easily install anything on your Pi using Pi - Apps! Over 1 million users. Looks like you have done a lot of work. Zoom after installing all including box86 last version overwriting my original box86 version does not work. I apologize in advance. Someone who has installed the zoom app in RPI4b and has it working, could you please help me to solve the problem? She does require a stable instance of Zoom in order to do remote teaching, and the web-based Zoom-in-Chromium is decidedly not that /4982.txt any stretch. Consequently, right now she's got multiple devices crowding her desk just to get by, and that's untenable.

I have it and Zoom installed. I have yet to test it IRL.
